In 1947, the Children's Society (formerly the Waifs and Strays Society) opened the Princess Helena Victoria Nursery Training College at Lushington Road, Catford. The premises had previously been occupied by the Society's St Peter and St Paul Home for Babies.

In 1959, the nursery was relocated to Ascot.
