Horwood House School / Children's Home, Witham, Essex

Horwood House Children's Home was founded by Miss K.L. ('Kitty') Hunt and occupied premises at 59 Newland Street, Witham. The home was run on Montessori lines for disadvantaged children from London.

On 1 January 1918, th establishment was certified to operate as an Industrial School with accommodation for up to ten boys and girls under the age of five years. 1 November 1918, the upper age limit was raised to eight.

In March, 1927, the home transferred to new premises at Langford Cross, Heybridge, near Maldon.
